Why is it that poor people will have hundreds of thousands of dollars pass through their hands in their life, and generally will manage to somehow keep a roof over their heads with the rent paid on time or a bit late and keep the car running most of the time and that’s it?
Why do the middle class create a “comfortable” living, but still have to worry about funding college for their kids, having the freedom to take six months off work to explore… or even whether to order the steak and seafood dish they really want without first checking the price or chicken (again) when they go out to a high class restaurant?
How come often rich people who “lose it all” come roaring back with new wealth a few short years later?
What is financial wealth anyway? Income or net worth?
This book answers those question. Like most truths they’re simple.
The author is from North Vancouver, of all places, 80 km away from me.
I am usually diametrically opposed to following an author’s exhortations 100%. But. I read this book and I couldn’t find one word I disagreed with.
The author seemed to be speaking to me and seemed not only to understand what I do, but why I do what I do. He offered a prescription for change and I am heartily following it.

Ross Enamait, widely respect health and fitness author and motivator, proprietor of RossTraining.com, has had a baby girl, Brooke, on 21 June: 7 lb 12 oz (3.5 kg).
Is Ross my mentor for being healthy and fit and a motivator, or is he my mentor for being a loving dad x 2?
Either way.

Her Bearness, Jacqui the Magnificently Silly, went down to Busselton, WA, Australia for almost a week with her family…. it’s strange not to see her on web camera for so long. I enjoyed focusing on me for a bit, but it ain’t as much fun as focusing on her.
She’s back safe and sound and that’s what matters most to me.

I went down to pay my respects to Canada’s military and law enforcement veterans including serving members who are engaged in combat and reconstruction operations in Afghanistan today.
My mom came with me. We went to the cenotaph by Victoria, BC’s legislature building where my mom used to work.
On the walk there, we met some sailors from Australia!

It was June of 1989, I was 16, and I had just returned from a three month hike by myself, mostly of living off the land. My mom welcomed me home and my sister put a sticker on the resulting photo.

A little bit earlier… my sister, Ginny, and I had baked a cake, so we could enjoy it with tea, using a toy oven with an incandescent light bulb… it fascinated me no end that we could bake a for real cake using the light bulb. This foreshadowed my lifelong interest in science.

My mom, Gwen, my dad, Dave, and little Santa (me) in 1973.

I’m five, and my sister is three, and the furnishings are very 70s.

When I was young, I always wore a tie… when my mom made me.

I wasn’t expecting that.
My 14-year old niece, Angel-Jazdell, who is totally fearless and outgoing and explores and climbs on anything she can, came to me when I was sitting on my mom’s couch. She loves to talk.
She touches my beard and calls me, “Dada”.
Then my sister who is sitting beside me laughs and says she’s glad it was her brother, and not some random guy, who got called Dada by her daughter for the first time.
A minute later my niece brings me the remote control, confirming that she knows I’m male and also that she knows what’s up.
Quite right!

It’s true.
I’m having a fantastic time.
Bear (Jacqui) is the most wonderful woman I’ve ever met, except for my mom, and I’ve had the time of my life. That’s as that song goes, but I’ll be nonplussed if it ain’t so.
We’re now in Mandurah, a busy and friendly tourist town south of Perth. Bear’s in the apartment we’re staying at and I’m going for a “walk”.
I could talk about all the touristy things we did, but instead I’ll mention I accomplished some important personal things on this trip I’ve been meaning to do for ages, at last wrote and launched my business website, ChristophDollis.com, and learned who Bear is.
She is as magnificent as I had dreamed.
You know how when you have the “hots” for someone, you make them all perfect in your mind and then months or years later you discover to your chagrin that it was all in your head?
Well, through thick and thin, problem and pleasure, Bear has been her wonderful self, only surprising me by how she rises to the challenge, not that she does.
My grammar may not have been the best, but I hope you catch my meaning. And she’s fun.
During this trip I have stayed variously with her family, at a luxury eco-resort burried in the bush, at a caravan/trailer park, briefly with her husband and wife pastors (yes, it’s a fact), and now at a lovely split level apartment in Mandurah. Her family were especially gracious, the peaceful chalet awesome, the trailer park had a pool under the palm trees for my daily swims, her pastors and their family loving and close, the apartment ideal, and the ocean swimming, scenery, and wildlife, out of this world… yet the highlight has always been the same… the subject of this site.
I set out to find someone special; it wasn’t an accident. And such is the way with most great things.

As I head into the new year, I have exciting things in store, chief of which one week from now is meeting Jacqui whom I’ve had more fun taunting after knowing her from a distance for 2-years than anyone since “Peter Cottondung” (don’t ask) in Junior High.
To understand how she makes me feel, here’s a little audio:
I predict we’re going to have a fantastic year… and the answer to that riddle will be solved shortly.
I also want to take this opportunity to say a big and hearty THANK YOU to the friends and strangers who’ve touched both of us by supporting Loving Jacqui with a kind word, your readership (even my friend’s 11-year old daughter, Cayla, is a shy reader, I’ve heard), and even your financial contributions. It was amazing to us in a good sense that a few people whom we didn’t even know (and a couple we did, like Jacqui’s friend) tripped on this blog and donated something to help us unite: people like Roby, Doug, and Dustin.
All told, I probably raised enough to pay for my passport, which is 10 times my original goal of $8… just to see if it could be done.
Last but not least, my gratitude to Bear’s parents for raising such a one-of-a-kind outstanding daughter with a sidesplitting personality, heart of platinum, and, more importantly, a character to match. I will meet you soon as well as Jacqui’s beloved brothers, James and Johnathon, her sister Caroline, and her friends. I’m sure that *ahem* you have nothing but great things to say about her and don’t have any entertaining stories to tell me about embarrassing situations.
Let’s drink a toast to the future and Jacqui, you and I, let’s do it in person and for real in the coming days.
Happy New Year!

Wow… that was good and not only the food.
I just came back from my Dad’s girlfriend (of at least 15-years!)’s son’s house for Boxing Day vittles and fun.
I’ll post more pictures later, but for now, here it is: My dad, Dave, and my youngest niece, Angel-Jazdell (she’s a cutie).
Ah heck, let’s have another one… my mom, Gwen, sister, Ginny a.k.a. Phoenix, and yours truly on Christmas:
When these photos are finally edited (probably not until I get to Australia January 7th or later!) you can reach the proper photo album by clicking on either photo. Until then, clicking on them will just default to the Loving Jacqui Photos main page.

Well, as I go to visit my family and you visit yours, I just wanted to wish you every good thing.
Whether you are black or white, male or female, young or old, free or enslaved, whatever your religion (if any) I wish you all the the best and may every good thing come your way.
The next year will be trying for myself and for Bear and, indeed, for many in this world.
During it all, remember all that is good in life: love, family, responsibility, growth, struggle, joy, and pleasure.
May God bless you — and may you take actions that produce happiness.
Here’s a video of a recent holiday visit to my sis’s house where I got to spend time with her and my nieces: Something that brings me happiness:

I don’t have a lot to say right now except my prayers and thoughts are with you, your brother, and all of your family during this time. I will be thinking about you every day.
* James is Jacqui’s younger brother.
UPDATE: Glad it’s not as serious as originally feared. Recover fast!

I dropped by my sis, Ginny (a.k.a. Phoenix)’s, home tonight.
My sister gave birth recently to a gorgeous little lady, Angel-Jazdell. That’s her in the centre. And on the right is my sweet and lovely niece, Xyrah-Star.

Hey all,
I just received a phone call from my mom telling me that my sister is in labour.
I’m excited — my extended family is about to increase by one!
My sister keeps healthy and fit so I’m not too concerned (okay, that’s a lie; I’m a man and I’m very concerned!), but please join me one and all and send my sis, Phoenix, and her baby your best wishes and your prayers.
Thank you.
UPDATE: It’s a girl.
UPPERDATE: Her name is Angel-Jazdell.
