Christoph Dollis doing “business” as Christoph Dollis Adventures is the sole owner of all information collected on LovingJacqui.net except as set out below. I will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways different from what are disclosed in this statement.

Christoph Dollis Adventures collects information from my users at several different points on LovingJacqui.net.

(Note: I have registered the domain name “LovingBear.net” and have forwarded it to LovingJacqui.net. Therefore, all references to LovingJacqui.net apply equally to LovingBear.net.)

A cookie is a piece of data downloaded from a website and stored on the user’s hard drive.

LovingJacqui.net makes limited use of primarily “session cookies”. Also called a transient cookie, a session cookie is stored in temporary memory and it is erased when the user closes their web browser. Session cookies do not collect personally identifiable information from the user’s computer.

Also called a permanent cookie or a stored cookie, a persistent cookie is one that is stored on a user’s hard drive until it reaches a preset expiration date or until the user deletes the cookie. Persistent cookies may be used to collect identifying information about the user, such as web surfing behaviour or user preferences for a specific website.

Any persistent cookies used by ChristophDollis.com are for the user’s convenience: To remember settings and selections like whether a user has chosen the “Original Blue” or “Ghastly Pink” theme, etc. I don’t use cookies for tracking purposes; however, various add-on services used by LovingJacqui.net may and, if this concerns you, you should read the privacy policies for these other sites.

I use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track users’ movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are generally not linked to personally identifiable information, however, they can be linked to a specific Internet service provider or organization. For example, if a user works for the Bank of Montreal in the corporate head office and they use their work computer to visit this website, I may be able to tell that someone with a given IP address visited this website and that they used a Bank of Montreal computer to do so.

I also collect information about which type of operating systems and web browsers my users are using so that I can better design my website to be accessible for a wide variety of users. This information is in no way personally identifiable.

If, as I am, you are concerned about your security and privacy while online, then I offer that you might wish to take a page from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and download the excellent and free Firefox web browser with the free add-on NoScript extension.

This will allow you to selectively allow Javascript (code you automatically download from a website that runs on your computer and is, 99% of the time, a good thing; however, it can be used to automatically download Spyware, Adware, Viruses, Trojans, Keyloggers, and other bad things you don’t want) on a site-by-site basis and also to tame Microsoft’s ActiveX controls (an application programming interface that allows web browsers to download and execute Windows programs similar in nature to Javascript). Oh, and it’s also years ahead of Internet Explorer 7 in add-on functionality and you can even customize its looks.

This brings us to…

Javascript is a “client side script” or program downloaded automatically from a website that operate on a user’s computer and allow additional website functionality. It is very common and many excellent websites simply can’t be used without it.

Unfortunately, unscrupulous people can write client side script in such a way that it will automatically install unwanted programs onto a user’s computer.

Users may safely allow Javascript on LovingJacqui.net.

Among other things, I use it for drop down menus allowing users to find blog posts, to let users expand videos to “full screen”, and occasionally for special event countdown timers.

However, if a user has Javascript disabled, they will still be able to use this website with only minor changes in functionality! I believe in accessibility.

Please be aware that I [Christoph Dollis, Christoph Dollis Adventures, and LovingJacqui.net] am not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites, with the exception of “ChristophDollis.com” where I do business as “Christoph Dollis Enterprises”. A user may rest assured that their privacy is protected just as much on my business website as it is on LovingJacqui.net and any disclosure of personally identifiable information there is optional.

I encourage my users to be aware when they leave my site(s) and to read the privacy statements, if any, of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by LovingJacqui.net.

By commenting (and/or leaving a trackback) on my site, you agree that you retain all ownership rights in what you post here and that you will relieve Christoph Dollis Adventures from any and all liability that may result from those postings.

A spam email harvester is an automated program that scours hundreds of millions of webpages on the Internet collecting all the email addresses it can find so that the owner of the program can spam the owners of those email addresses or sell their email addresses to someone else so that they can spam them.

Under each post is an option for a user to subscribe to followup comments for that post only.

To use this option, a user must enter a valid email address into the “Email” field of the, “Leave your comment here” form.

With every email notification the user receives, a link to the Loving Jacqui Comment Subscription Manager is provided enabling the user to change their email address, subscribe or unsubscribe from new comment notifications for individual posts, or opt-out of email notifications of new comments entirely.

Users wishing to contact me privately should instead use my “Contact Me” service.

If a user elects to use my “Contact Me” service or to contact me by any other means including leaving a comment, trackback, using my Invite-a-Friend service, or subscribing to email delivery of my blog posts and/or comments either through FeedBurner (a website operated by Google, Inc., and you can read FeedBurner’s privacy policy here: http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/privacy) or by my “Individual Post Comment Email Subscriptions” service, I ask them for their name and email address and they are free to provide additional information such as their work contact information, home mailing address, and telephone number(s).

By proactively contacting Christoph Dollis the user has expressly consented to allowing Christoph Dollis Adventures to contact the user.

As such, the user is giving consent for Christoph Dollis Enterprises to contact the user by:

I detest spam.

All a user has to do not to receive any further emails from me is write me back by return email with “Unsubscribe,” “Stop!” or “No More,” in the subject line (preferably with a please and a thank you, but that’s unnecessary!) if I have personally given the user my email address (other email addresses may be system generated and I will not receive those) or use my “Contact Me” service at LovingJacqui.net/contact/ and I will cease emailing that address as quickly as possible and, in all cases, within 15-business days.

I reserve the right — but do not assume the obligation — to send out a final email within that 15-business day period acknowledging that the user’s request will be honoured and offering them the opportunity to contact Christoph Dollis Adventures in the future.

If a user’s personally identifiable information changes (such as their email address or postal code), or if a user no longer wishes to communicate with me, I will attempt to provide a way to correct, update or remove (if allowed by law: example, if we have had a business relationship and I have rendered and/or charged for my services or purchased from you, I may be required to retain your personally identifiable information for a period of time to comply with Canada Revenue Agency regulations or with other applicable laws and regulations) that user’s personal information provided to me. This can be done by contacting Christoph Dollis at LovingJacqui.net/contact.

Notification of Privacy Policy Changes  |  Top

If I decide to change my privacy policy, I will post those changes here on my privacy policy page at LovingJacqui.net/privacy so my users are always aware of what information I collect, how I use it, and under what circumstances, if any, I disclose it. In order to assist users in quickly seeing whether my privacy policy has changed, “Updated: date” will appear near the top of the page.

If at any point I decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner materially different from that stated at the time it was collected, I would notify users by way of an email, telephone call, or postal letter (at my option) to the last point of contact that I have on file. Users will have a choice as to whether or not I use their information in this different manner.
